Movement III of V

Why Does Wanting Hurt?

The expansion is never negative. The negative is how the gap feels.

These are passages from the book, word for word: a few of the questions in each chapter and the answers to them. Each chapter has more.

9 Isn’t This Just the Law of Attraction?

Be straight with me. Desire, vibration, alignment, emotions as a guidance system. Isn’t this just the Law of Attraction with a complicated diagram?

It grew up in the same house. I’m not going to pretend it didn’t.

Then what’s actually new here?

Four things, and they matter.

The first is the mirror. Abraham talks about the nonphysical. Physics talks about the physical. TSR says they’re inverse reflections of each other, and it builds the nonphysical side by reflecting the physical one term by term, from one rule. That’s the question I carried onto the stage, and it’s the spine of everything here. Nobody handed me that structure. I’ll tell you in the next chapter about the people who came closest to it before me, including one, Arthur Young, who published a pairing of the formulas of physics with categories of meaning the year after I was born. I drew my table in 2019. I first heard his name while finishing this book, in 2026.

The second is that it’s a whole system. Most teachings in this area give you a set of principles. Some are beautiful. They mostly float free of each other. TSR starts from six properties that produce four realities, which make two continuums, which meet in one more continuum with a single point at its center. I sometimes call it six, four, two, one, zero. The zero is the point at the center. It has no dimensions at all.

Every term in it connects to every other term, in words, in symbols and in one picture. Change one piece and you can watch the others move. I haven’t found another description of consciousness and human agency that does that from so few simple rules. And since I’ve been clear about the house this was built in, I’ll be clear about the deed. The weather is Abraham’s. What I’ll claim as mine is the mirror run term by term from one rule; the split between the resistance that makes you a someone and the resistance that is suffering; and the other person as a structural part of the circulation, not a caveat added at the end.

The third is the mechanism. The Law of Attraction tells you that like attracts like and that you should feel good. It doesn’t tell you why the nonphysical is “pure positive,” or why negative experiences expand you instead of dragging the universe down with you, or why you can want something more and more clearly for twenty years while your life stays exactly the same. TSR explains all three with the same piece, which is the next chapter.

The fourth is the other person. This is where I part ways with a lot of that shelf. The popular version of attraction thinking can turn cruel fast: if you’re sick, you attracted it; if you’re poor, your vibration is off; if someone hurt you, you must have been a match for it. TSR doesn’t allow that. Other people are sovereign. They have their own Movements, their own resistance, their own returns. What happens to them is not a report card on their thoughts. I’ll show you why that follows from the structure, not just from being nice.

Why should my translation be yours, then?

It shouldn’t have to be. If your tradition gives you the Current in words that work for you, keep them. What TSR offers is the system underneath. It’s a description of how those experiences are possible at all, in terms an engineer could follow. That’s the part I think is missing, and it’s the part I was given.

10 The Filter

Abraham calls the nonphysical “pure positive energy.” So do you. That sounds like wishful thinking. The world is full of pain. Why would the other side be pure anything?

Because of how the crossing works. This is the part of TSR I find most fascinating, and it follows straight from the structure.

The nonphysical is receptive, limitless, and it collects. Resistance is a physical property. It’s the defining physical property. So resistant energy can’t flow into the nonphysical. It isn’t a rule anybody enforces. There’s simply nothing on that side for resistance to be. A thing that resists can’t enter a medium whose whole nature is receiving.

So at the Point of Reflection there’s a filter. I call it the Resistance Contrast Filter. Everything crosses there, but not everything crosses the same way. Contrast is a difference felt from a position, and a difference felt from a position already leans: toward more of this, away from that. What the lean produces is either a hold or a pull. If it has holding in it, it’s resistance, and it stays here. If it doesn’t, it’s a pull toward more, and that is what wanting is: the asking. There’s no third way to meet a difference from a position.

What gets through, then?

Say you work for someone who treats you badly for three years. Every day is contrast. You feel small, you feel angry, you feel stuck.

What goes Out For you, into the Current, isn’t the bad boss. It isn’t the anger or the smallness. It’s what all that contrast made you want: respect, freedom, work that fits you, a life where you’re not afraid on Sunday nights. The wanting goes up. The pain stays here. The resistant part of the experience can’t cross, so only the expanded preference does.

That’s why it’s pure positive. Nothing negative can get in. Every hard thing that has ever happened to anyone has only ever added to what’s wanted.

So the pain just disappears?

No, and this is the other half.

The resistant energy stays on this side and keeps circulating. It goes Out Through you as belief (“this is how work is,” “people like me don’t get that”). It comes back In From the world as expectation (“see, it happened again”). Every lap cements it a little more. More belief, more expectation. Holding onto the negative perspective carries the resistance forward into the next moment, and the next, where it builds. That loop is what I meant in the first chapter by holding on.

Meanwhile, the pure positive energy is flowing back toward you, In To you as inspiration and imagination, the answers, the next move. And it hits that resistance. The resistance blocks it from coming through.

11 The Gap

If everything I’ve ever wanted is already expanding in the Current, why does my life look exactly like it did ten years ago?

Because both of those things are true at the same time, and nobody told you they could be.

The Current keeps expanding with everything your life has made you want, and every hard week adds to it. Meanwhile, as you saw with the filter, your belief and expectation keep looping on this side, and your life stays the same shape.

So the distance between what you’ve expanded into and what you’re actually living gets wider. Not because you’re failing to want. Because you keep wanting more, and you keep living the same.

So the more I want, the further behind I fall. How is that not depressing?

It’s the most hopeful thing I know, once you see it. It means nothing you wanted was lost. All of it is still there, further out than you are. The gap is made entirely of good things you haven’t let in yet.

It also explains why the ache gets worse over time instead of better. People think if they’ve wanted something for twenty years and don’t have it, the wanting should fade. It doesn’t, because it keeps growing. The gap you feel at forty is bigger than the one you felt at twenty, even if your circumstances are identical. That’s not weakness. It’s expansion, felt from the wrong side.

So I need more energy. I need to push harder.

That’s what I thought for twenty years. It’s the wrong kind of energy.

Pushing is Focus. Focus works on the physical side, and the loop you’re stuck in is made of physical resistance: belief and expectation. When you push against it with more Focus, you’re feeding it more of what it’s made of. You try hard, it doesn’t work, and now you have one more piece of evidence for the expectation that it doesn’t work.

The energy that gets you out comes from the other side. It’s already there, waiting in the gap. It comes In To you as intuition and imagination, and what stops it is resistance. So the move isn’t to add force. It’s to take away resistance, so more of what’s already coming can come through.

12 Five Seconds

The recording. You said you’d tell me what happened to it.

I talked for about forty-five minutes. It poured out of me. I was explaining the whole system as it arrived: how the two sides cross, why resistance can’t get into the Current, why anything negative can only make it expand, why the expansion itself is never negative. It was the clearest I’ve ever been about any of it.

When I finally stopped and played it back, there were five seconds on the recording.

Five seconds.

What did you do?

The natural thing. I tried to get it back. I sat there and tried to return to the state I’d been in, to find the words again, to reconstruct what I’d said. I pushed. I concentrated. I went over and over the pieces I could remember.

And the harder I tried, the further away it got. Every minute of effort put more distance between me and the thing I was reaching for. I’d had the whole of it an hour earlier, and now I couldn’t find the edge of it.

I didn’t understand it then, but I understand it now. I was repeatedly practicing its absence. Every time I searched for what was missing, I rehearsed the fact that it was missing. I was building belief and expectation out of the loss, lap after lap, and every lap made the resistance thicker.

How did you get it back?

I gave up. I didn’t give up on it. I gave up trying.

I relaxed. I let it go and did something else. And after a while, a thought came back. Just one. I followed it, lightly, and it led to another. So I let that one lead me too.

So you’re saying trying harder makes things worse. That’s hard to accept. Effort is how anything gets done.

Effort is fine. It’s Focus. A hard conversation you want to have is still hard, and effort that comes from alignment still feels like work. It just doesn’t feel like drag. What makes things worse is using Focus to push against a gap that’s made of holding on.

When you strain for something, you’re living in the feeling of not having it. That feeling is holding on. And holding on is exactly what blocks the thing from coming In To you. The strain widens the gap you’re straining to close.

13 The Other Person Is Real

You promised me an answer. If every painful experience expands the Current, is suffering good?

No. The expansion is good. The suffering is just suffering.

The filter tells you what crosses: only the wanting, never the pain. That’s a description of how the Current grows. It isn’t a verdict on the thing that caused the pain. Something can produce expansion and still be something that should never have happened. I’ll name the trap, because a careful reader will hear it anyway: if every hard thing adds to what is wanted, then the worst thing anyone ever did was useful to the whole, and the only thing withheld from the one who did it is the credit. That’s a theodicy, and I refuse it. The Current receiving what a cruelty made someone want is not the Current needing the cruelty. The wanting would have come from any contrast at all, and the gentlest contrast would have done. Nothing in this book says suffering is required. It says suffering, when it happens, isn’t wasted. Those are different sentences, and the second one is the only one I’ll stand behind.

But you also said there’s no separation on the other side. If we’re all one, why can’t I decide what’s best for someone else?

Because on this side, where you’re deciding, they have their own resistance, their own perspective, their own Movement. That’s what makes them a someone, the same way it makes you one.

No separation in the nonphysical doesn’t mean no boundaries in the physical. It means the opposite of what people usually take it to mean. It means everyone is equally inside the whole, from their own place, and nobody’s place is yours to stand in. My Desire can’t become your consent. It doesn’t matter how sincere I am, or how sure I feel that I’ve received something about your life. My sincerity isn’t your consent either.

And people who are sick, or poor, or hurt? Did they attract it?

No one deserves their suffering, and no one’s suffering is a report card on their thoughts.

I think resistance affects everything physical, bodies included, and I’ll say more about that near the end of the book. But believing the whole system is connected is the opposite of blaming the person inside it. Poisons are real. Genes are real. Accidents, cruelty, poverty, bad luck, all real, all physical, all coming In From a world full of other people’s choices. A body is a part of much larger systems, and most of the resistance in those systems isn’t yours.
